The Town of Peace River and the Peace River Museum, Archives, and Mackenzie Centre would like to extend our thanks to three local heroes! On February 22,2024, a small fire started on the platform of the historic NAR station. The quick action of these heroes saved the building and kept the damage to a minimum. Thank you so much to Jaimie Gaudreau, Randilee Fisher and a third good Samaritan whose name was missed in the commotion! These three stopped to call Emergency Services and put out the flames before they had a chance to spread. This situation could have ended very badly, and we wantRead More →

The Peace River Fire Department will be undertaking a Training Evacuation Exercise tonight (Tuesday, March 5, 2024). PLEASE READ IN FULL – THERE IS NO EMERGENCY! Each year, the PRFD reviews the Town’s Municipal Emergency Plan, including the department’s role in potential evacuations. As part of this, the PRFD will be carrying out a practice evacuation notification to residents in a small area of Town – JUST TO REVIEW AND PRACTICE PROCEDURES. Tonight, crews will go door-to-door in a specific area of Town, interacting with residents as if it were a real emergency evacuation (again – it’s not). The PRFD then reviews considerations such asRead More →

Each year, the Town of Peace River reviews municipal fees and charges to make sure they’re aligned with industry best practice, while acknowledging inflation and service costs. The bylaw related to this review was put before Council on February 12, 2024, at which time they passed first reading. That means the bylaw is returning on the 28th for second and potentially third readings, so we want to make sure you know what’s in there! First, there are no changes to fees being requested in Corporate Services/Protective Services. For Community Services, fees are proposed to increase by an average of 2%, while the Baytex Energy CentreRead More →

The Town office will be closed to the public for the afternoon of February 12, 2024. We will provide an update on the timeline for the return of water service by 4:30pm today. WeRead More →

Recently, Town of Peace River Council gave first reading to Bylaw No. 2146, regarding the designation of manufactured homes within Manufactured Home Communities (trailer parks). So, we want to fill you in on what that bylaw means for you if Council moves forward with second and third readings! Background Right now, we tax these lands by way of levies sent to the park owner in question, and then a separate levy is sent to individual park residents for residential taxation. Unfortunately, the Town has struggled historically to collect those property taxes from the park residents. The costs associated with write offs and collection are bornRead More →
