Family and Community Support Services (FCSS)

Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) provides programming that is designed to deliver social programs that “…are preventive in nature and are provided at the earliest opportunity in order to promote and enhance well-being among individuals, families, and communities.”

Peace River FCSS provides free prevention-based family and youth programming and free community events that help promote the importance of family relationships. FCSS also provides links to other organizations that might provide further prevention-based opportunities to the public.

FCSS is a funding partnership between municipalities or Metis settlements, and the Province provided through the FCSS Act and Regulation.

Local FCSS programs depend on community resources, often involving volunteers in both the management and delivery of their programs. They work in partnership with other service providers in the community to try to prevent the need for intervention and rehabilitation services, by offering services that help to strengthen individuals in their everyday lives.
The principle is based on a belief that self-help contributes to a sense of integrity, self-worth, and independence, and a “people helping people” approach to improving an individual’s quality of life and build their capacity to prevent and or deal with crisis situations should they arise.
