Refugee Support Program

Peace River welcomes those fleeing war, persecution, and disaster from around the world. To help individuals and families settle in our community we offer free recreation and low-cost transportation supports for eligible Refugees.

Who Can Apply?

  • You are a refugee or have another Government of Canada immigration status because you left your country due to war or conflict.
  • You have lived in Canada for 18 months or less
  • You live in:
    -Town of Peace River
    - Northern Sunrise County
    - MD of Peace
    - County of Northern Lights
    *Please note The Taxi Pass Program is available only to residents of the Town of Peace River.
     

Supports Included in the Program

  • Peace Regional Swimming Pool Passes
  • Baytex Energy Centre Drop-In Program Passes
  • Baytex Energy Centre Indoor Track Passes
  • Taxi Pass Program
  • Community Scholarship Program for Youth

Length of Support

Support is provided for 6 months. You may request one additional 6-month extension. The maximum support period is 12 months.

Applying

Required Documents

You must provide copies of the following documents:

  1. A government immigration document that shows your status, such as:
    - Refugee Protection Claimant Document
    - Confirmation of Referral
    - Another government-issued document that confirms your immigration status
  2. Proof of residence, such as:
    - A lease agreement
    - A letter from your landlord
    - A utility bill

How to Submit your Application

Complete the application and attach copies of your immigration and proof of residence documents. Do not send original documents. Bring photocopies, or we can make copies for you when you drop off your application. Applications and documents can be dropped off at the Town Office, Baytex Energy Centre, Peace Regional Pool or emailed to Community Services: communityservices@peaceriver.ca
