Flags Lowered for Vimy Ridge Day

April 9, 2019

Flags at municipal buildings have been lowered for the day in honour of Vimy Ridge Day.

Vimy Ridge Day was designated by the Government of Canada as a day of remembrance of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, which took place from April 9 to April 12, 1917. The battle was a major victory in World War I, however, it came at great cost, 3,598 Canadians were killed and another 7,000 wounded. It marked the first time that all of the Canadian Divisions of the Canadian Expeditionary Force fought together.
