Town of Peace River

Peace River is a progressive urban centre in northwest Alberta, and is a scenic, growing town that is home to just under 7,000 residents. The community is situated in the Peace River Valley and straddles the banks of the mighty Peace River. The town is within a five hours’ drive north of Edmonton and two hours northeast of Grande Prairie and is serviced with air, rail and bus links.

Peace River provides a wide range of services to the surrounding areas. Among these are an impressive combination of businesses including locally owned downtown stores and restaurants, as well as national and international retailers.

With cultural sites, bike trails, free Downtown WiFi, water sports, festivals and a popular Ski Hill, Peace River is a welcoming centre in this beautiful part of Alberta.

Our town was also recently awarded the ‘Cultureville’ title in the prestigious competition that celebrates CBC’s 75th Anniversary and Alberta Art Days. When accepting the award, Mayor Lorne Mann said the accolade was an endorsement of Peace River’s thriving community.

“This award goes to show that quality of life is crucial in Peace River – the prettiest place on the planet,” Mayor Mann said. “Culture and arts are a way of life here, but there is also a strong community element involved. Many events act as fundraisers for groups and organizations, so everybody becomes involved and it impacts positively on all of our citizens and visitors.”
