🚗 Sagitawa Friendship Society gave an update on their mobile outreach unit and transports from the Peace River Correctional Facility. The organization said since starting the PRCC transports in February, 32 individuals have been transported to their home communities.
Their mobile outreach unit has been equally busy, fielding 121 calls in the third quarter of the fiscal year from businesses, agencies, private residents, clients and RCMP. Sagitawa is working on building relationships between business owners and clients, reporting that they’ve had some very positive feedback from businesses downtown. Additionally, the organization was proud to report that a number of regular shelter residents had found housing.
💸 Council also awarded grants to four community organizations. Peace River Rotaract received $8,769.53; Peace River Minor Football received $5,000; the Underground Music Society received $600; and Conseil Scolarie du Nord Ouest-Ecole Des Quartre Vents received $1,200.
🙌 For the Peace River Economic Development Committee, council accepted the resignations of Gayle Walton and Brandon Dous, thanking them for their contributions and work to establish the committee. Council appointed Noah Lavergne and Kaye Tice to fill two-year terms on the committee.
👀 Council was also pleased to hear about the Town of Peace River receiving a successful $200,000 grant in matching funds to conduct a wayfinding project in the community. Implementation of signage that helps residents and visitors find their way around town will likely take place next year.
📣 Finally, council declared the Town of Peace River as supportive of being a Nuclear Host Region.
