The candidate for the Peace River United Conservative Party, Dan Williams, presented to council regarding his campaign.

Grants to Organizations

Several community groups who applied for grants via Council’s Grants to Organizations Program presented to Council. Details on the applications are in the links below.

Unfinished Business

Request for Decision re: 2019 Operating and Capital Budgets

Council approved the 2019 operating and capital budgets following the last two months of deliberating during public meetings on November 13, November 19, November 22, December 3 and December 10. Full details on the 2019 budget are available at the link below.

Municipal Budget

Request for Decision re: Appeal of Fire Service Charges

Council voted to refund half the fire service charges related to this appeal and two other similar instances. As well they directed administration advertise regarding fire service costs and bylaw enforcement.

New Business

Briefing Note re: Grants to Organizations

Council reviewed the briefing note and accepted it as information. They also made a motion to approve the Chamber of Commerce’s request for $2,500 for the Davis Awards on January 19, 2019.

Request for Decision re: Invitation to Carnaval de St-Isidore

Town Council was enabled to attend the upcoming opening ceremonies for Carnaval de St-Isidore taking place on February 15, 2019.

Request for Decision re: Asset Management Cohort Program

Council approved a request for Town of Peace River to join Northern Sunrise County in applying for the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) and Rural Municipalities Association (RMA) regional asset management cohort program.

Request for Decision re: Community Services Board Appointments

Three new board appointments were approved by Council for the Community Services Board. The appointments were Misa Robinson member at large, Dianne Lavoie, representative of indigenous heritage, and Matthew Oostvogels as representative of the public at large.

Request for Decision re: Municipal Leader’s Caucus

Council was enabled to attend the Municipal Leader’s Caucus in March 27 – 28, organized by the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA).

Letter dated January 10, 2019 from Northern Sunrise County re: Joint Capital Fund Request

The letter received from Northern Sunrise County regarding the disbursement of the 2019 joint capital fund was reviewed by Council. Town Administration was also directed to write a response that said the Town agrees with the County regarding the use of the fund, which includes including $50,000 for improvements to Sagitawa Lookout, and $1,516,520 for the Peace Regional Recreation Centre, with $300,000 left remaining.

Enabling Motion for Attendance at Centennial Davis Awards

Council members were enabled to attend the 2019 Centennial Davis Awards on January 19, 2019 hosted by the Peace River and District Chamber of Commerce.
