Structure Fire, Jan. 20
January 21, 2018
At 10:40 pm on Jan 20 2018, Peace River Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 9810 96 Street. On arrival the garage at the South end of the building was fully involved and fire was spreading to the attached building known as the Crown Building. Crews made an attempt to enter the Crown Building but intense heat and fire prevented any entry. The rest of the building was very quickly fully involved and the building is now completely destroyed. No other structures in the area have been affected.
16 Firefighters fought the fire with crews responding from Peace River, Weberville and St. Isidore departments. No injuries have occurred.
At this time (5:30 am Jan 21), the fire is under control but is not fully extinguished. A crew will remain on scene overnight to control hot spots that are still active, and other crews will return in the morning to continue the suppression with the assistance of construction machinery.
The public is asked to avoid the area as the smoke and icy road conditions make the area hazardous to the public.
The cause of the fire will be investigated when the fire has been fully extinguished and all hazards mitigated.
