Statement on PRSD Decision
Released April 18, 2017
Today trustees at the Peace River School Division have voted to keep their administrative offices and maintenance yards in Peace River.
The decision to remain in Peace River was reached by the board of trustees after months of consultation and means that more than 30 jobs will remain in downtown Peace River. The Town of Peace River respects the Peace River School Division’s decision-making authority and is grateful they agreed to re-examine the issue of centralization.
“Today’s decision will enable PRSD to continue its tradition of attracting high-quality talent while providing high-quality education,” said Peace River Mayor Tom Tarpey. “We are pleased with the decision of the Trustees and look forward to working with PRSD in the future.”
The Town of Peace River will support the board’s decision through cooperation with the school division to ensure operational efficiencies, optimization, and synergy. In the coming weeks, both the Town of Peace River and Peace River School Division will sit down together to formalize the arrangement.
