Peace River Regional Women’s Shelter Society provides an Emergency Residential Shelter, Outreach and Follow-up Program, Residential Case Management and Child and Youth Program along with Public Education sessions to the community of Peace River and 100km radius.
The 24-bed shelter provides a safe, supportive environment for: *abused women without children * abused women with children * women in crisis *women in need The shelter provides all basic necessities including food, toiletries, used/new clothing, laundry, transportation to appointments, personal incidentals, some recreation, some childcare.
The Outreach program is to assist victims or anyone who has been exposed to family violence, who are in a crisis and who do not want to, or cannot, come to the shelter whereas Follow-up is for those who have left shelter. Women who set up their own households after leaving the shelter may receive weekly follow-up visits for up to three months. The Residential Case Management Program is for those currently in the shelter.
Outreach and Residential Case Management offer: crisis intervention, emotional support, education on abuse, risk assessment, danger assessment and safety planning, advocacy in all areas, referrals to counselling, mental health, addiction, housing supports, information provision, referrals, advocacy, and accompaniment to appointments in accessing community resources, some childcare, affordable housing and financial supports are also offered.
Our Child and Youth Program operates as the Empowering Kids and Youth Program and provides specialized support services tailored to the unique needs of children and youth (aged 3 – 17) who are leaving or have been exposed to family violence. This consists of support protection, prevention, and early intervention activities that may include relationship building, parenting support and child/youth-focused intensive outreach support. Clients can be either in-house or in the community of Peace River and 100 km radius.
Public Education on abuse, family violence, healthy relationships, etc. is offered by the Outreach Program and the Child and Youth Program Coordinator. Please call if interested.
