The Town of Peace River is accepting applications for one (1) permanent, full-time Public Works Lead Hand—with a heavy focus on equipment operation.

Reporting to the Foreman of Public Works, the Public Works Lead Hand is integral to the day-to-day operations of the Town of Peace River and leading crews and operating equipment for snow-clearing, utility digs, performing maintenance on roads and assisting with parks maintenance.

We’re looking for someone with the following key characteristics:

  • A leader of teams in the field with the ability to conduct meetings, prepare work plans, order materials, track and complete work orders and execute work
  • Experience operating equipment in a road building or utility capacity including vac trucks, loaders, gravel trucks, graders, dozers and others.
  • A background working with a modern safety program including a practical and working understanding of ground disturbance, trenching safety, equipment safety, leading safety meetings, performing hazard assessments, and stopping work if necessary.
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to communicate verbally and electronically to multiple levels in the organization including management, field staff, the public, and other departments.
  • Possessing a Class 3 License and Airbrakes endorsement.

The position needs someone with broad experience, a willingness to be on-call, take action in emergency response (ie, during flooding, etc.) , and a desire to be part of building a great community. This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 898 and as such, the successful candidate will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement.

Full Time • Permanent
Employment Wage: $39.93 per hour (currently under review)
Hours: Monday to Friday 40 hours per week (on call required)
