Position Overview: As the Parks Lead Hand, you will be at the forefront of ensuring our parks remain pristine and welcoming environments for all visitors. You will oversee the operation and maintenance of parks, trails, open spaces, outdoor facilities, and trees.  As well, you will you will play a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of our community by assisting in the planning, development, and completion of new and existing park projects and in maintenance duties required to fulfil the objectives of the yearly work plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: providing leadership and mentorship to the Parks Staff
  • Collaboration: with Recreation Facilities Lead, and the Manager of Recreation and Parks to ensure working plans are developed and implemented for seasonal staff
  • Task Coordination: Coordinate daily tasks and assignments, ensuring efficient use of resources and timely completion of work.
  • Community Engagement: Act as a point of contact for park users, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback in a professional and responsive manner.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and protocols, promoting a culture of safety within the team.

Qualifications:

  • Certification in Parks and Recreation Management, horticultural, landscape architecture or related field.
  • Five years’ experience in parks and recreation facilities and ground maintenance operations.
  • Three years supervisory/management experience with responsibility for a major function and its personnel. (Experience in maintenance and operation of parks preferred.)
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to provide the applicant with the knowledge, skill, and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the job will be considered.
  • I.S.A Certified Arborist an asset or ability to obtain.
  • C.S.A. Playground Inspector preferred.
  • Sports Field Operator 1 and 2 preferred.
  • Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license, Alberta Class 3 driver’s license preferred.

Full Time • Permanent Employment

Wage:     $30.35 per hour (wage is currently under review)

Hours:    Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
