Fire Hoses Damaged by Careless Drivers

Fire Hoses Damaged by Careless Drivers

May 11, 2018
Lack of patience can be costly, particularly at an emergency scene.

On Wednesday, May 9 the Peace River and County of Northern Lights Fire Department was called a structure fire in Terrace Trailer Park. One structure experienced moderate damage to it’s exterior but the fire was extinguished before it spread to the interior thanks to the quick response and hard work of our firefighters.

While this was taking place, the fire department temporarily closed a section of 86 St.  This action was necessary as a fire hose had to be deployed across the road to connect to the nearest fire hydrant.  The road was reopened in less than half an hour.

Although roadblocks were established, several vehicles drove over the hoses damaging causing more than $3,000 in damage.

Sometimes while responding to an emergency there are traffic disruptions, while efforts are made to minimize the disruption, really the priority is to prevent property damage or loss of life. In those situations we ask that people demonstrate patience around emergency scenes, those who do not may be charged under the Town of Peace River’s “Traffic & Streets Bylaw” which has a $165 penalty for driving over hoses.
