Presentations
Community Futures Peace Country – Grants to Organizations Request
Sherry Crawford and Vanessa Burns presented Community Future’s request for Council to support the Women in the North Conference. They intend to host six small conferences in the Peace Region, with the first being in Peace River on April 20, 2022, and then each Wednesday thereafter, in different communities in the Peace Region.
Friends of the Shepherds Society – Grants to Organizations Request
Jacqueline Bennis presented the Friends of the Shepherds Society’s request to Council for support for a new playground at Good Shepherd School.
Grants to Organizations Presentations
The Town of Peace River recognizes the valuable contributions made by community organizations and volunteer groups to improve the well-being of the community and the quality of life for its residents. In recognition of these contributions, the Town is committed to providing assistance to such organizations through its municipal grant program. Support is provided each year from the Town’s operating budget to qualifying organizations through an established application process.
Each year council budgets $50,000 for these types of groups and programs. Twenty-five percent (25%) or $12,500 of the total Grants to Organizations budget will be allocated towards the Community Development category, and twenty-five percent (25%) or $12,500 of the total Grants to Organizations budget will be allocated towards the Recreation/Sport Development category. Both are considered on a quarterly basis.
Grant applications are due on the 15th day of February, May, August and November of each year.

Request for Decision re: Economic Development Committee Terms of Reference (document uploaded February 25, 2022)
Council approved the Economic Development Economic Development Committee Terms of Reference as amended to clarify language around the vice chair, closed sessions, and minimum number of votes.
Request for Decision re: Appointment to Economic Development Committee (document uploaded February 25, 2022)
Council appointed Councillor Shannon to the Economic Development Committee.
Request for Decision re: Grants to Organizations
Council provided $1000 in funding to the Boreal Nature Network.
Council provided $500 in funding to Community Future’s Women in the North Conference.
Council provided $406.41 in funding to the PRFD Battle of the Badges event.
Council provided $1000 in funding to the Peace River Library fun day event.
Council provided $1,700 in funding to the Wahoo’s Winter Swim Club.
Council provided $2,000 in funding to the Springfield Parent Council for their playground project.
Council provided $5,900 in funding to the Friends of the Shepherds Society playground project.
Request for Direction re: Curling Club Lease
Council directed Administration to approach the Curling Club with a continued 5-year leasing arrangement.
Request for Decision re: Spring Trade Show
Council enabled all members to attend the Spring Trade Show on April 8-9, 2022.
Request for Decision re: Tourism Town Hall
Council enabled Mayor Manzer to attend the Tourism Town Hall in Grande Prairie on May 3, 2022.
Zoom Meeting Protocols (Verbal)
Council carried the motion to return to fully in-person meeting.
