Enhancing Public Safety with New Pilot Project

Peace River, Alberta – In a significant step towards enhancing the safety and security of our community, the Town of Peace River is pleased to announce a new public safety services pilot project.

Following extensive consultations with impacted residents and businesses, Council directed Administration to negotiate a three-month agreement with Apex Security to bolster safety in the community this summer. This pilot project represents a $240,000 investment in the well-being of our community.

“Our Council is committed to keeping Peace River the safe and welcoming town we all know it as. This pilot project is a testament to our dedication to improving public safety and supporting our downtown core. We believe that by taking proactive steps, we can foster a more secure and welcoming atmosphere for all.” – Mayor Elaine Manzer, Town of Peace River

The public safety services will include increased patrols, surveillance, and assistance for business owners and residents dealing with low-level social disorder and public disturbances. These measures are designed to deter criminal activity and provide peace of mind to our community members.

While we celebrate this important initiative, we also recognize the significant financial commitment it entails. At $240,000, this pilot project represents a substantial piece of our budget. As such, Council and Administration will be carefully monitoring its impact and effectiveness. At the conclusion of the three-month pilot, Council will perform a review of the services.

We encourage all residents and stakeholders to provide feedback throughout the duration of the pilot project. This input will be valuable in assessing the success of the initiative and making informed decisions about the future of public safety in our community. The project will run from July 15 to October 15, 2024.
