Lions Campground Update

Posted: November 12, 2021

It’s the end of an era! Please join the Town of Peace River in expressing our sincere appreciation to Albert Elter for over 20 years of volunteer commitment to the Peace River Lions Club and the Lions Campground. Albert has decided it is time to retire, which means he is closing the campground at the end of this camping season. Originally the closing date was October 31, 2021, but Albert has extended the season to November 30, 2021.

What happens next?

A portion of the Lions Campground is Town owned property, with most of the site being a lease with Canadian National (CN) for the purposes of a campground. The campground will now revert to the care and control of the Town of Peace River.

The campground will not open in the spring/summer of 2022, as Mr. Elter requires ample time to address his personal effects and the Lions Club assets. The Town is happy to assist Albert by allowing him the time to manage this significant move.

A plan for operating the campground has not been confirmed for future years. Options for the future will be considered by Council in 2022.

All the best Albert! Thank you for your years of service to our community and region!
