Significant updates from the July 17 regular meeting of Peace River Town Council are below. You can view the agenda and all Council items here.

Fire Services Contract Extended with County of Northern Lights & M.D. of Peace No. 135

Council extended the current agreements with both municipalities until December 31, 2017 in order to allow each municipality more time to reach a new one. Details on the finalizing of negotiations are available in the request for decisions regarding the County of Northern Lights and the M.D. of Peace.

Finishing Shaftesbury Trail

A report to Council updated them on the progress of the Shaftesbury trail connection. Construction continues to be on schedule, a paved path will be completed this summer. Following resident feedback from late-spring Council has asked for the removal or replacement of the Seacan located near Misery Mountain to be prioritized immediately after.

Special Council Meeting

There will be a special council meeting taking place on July 31, beginning at 5pm in Council Chambers, located in Town Hall. The purpose of this meeting will be the public hearing and further reading of Bylaw 2002. Bylaw 2002 was brought before Council for first reading on June 26 and would enable the Town to borrow approximately $9 million to fund construction of the new rec centre.
