July 12, 2022 Update

The Town has been actively monitoring the slope stability of the 101 Street hill in the South End. After the two most recent significant rain falls (the last one being July 7), there has been notable movement in a portion of roadway and slope. Out of an abundance of caution, the Town will close the southbound lane along 101st street for approximately 110 metres (from 11033 to 11109 101 Street). This reduction will remain in place for the foreseeable future. We are working to develop a long-term solution that will improve the slope stability and allow the road to be reopened to two-way traffic. This process will require engineering and geotechnical design followed by construction and must be incorporated into the municipal budget. It will likely take at least a year to complete.

Crews will be placing barriers to close the southbound lane, as well as traffic control lights on Thursday, July 14. We apologize for the inconvenience this will cause and thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work towards a solution.

Information about this closure was presented to Town Council on July 11. That information Briefing Note can be viewed on the July 11 Council Agenda: 2022 07 11 Information Briefing Note re 101st Stre.pdf (civicweb.net)
