What’s being built?
The Peace Regional Recreation Centre will contain one NHL sized rink, one multi-use field house, a three lane walking track, fitness room, three multipurpose community rooms, and an indoor children’s play space.
Beyond Sports – A Community Centre for more than 20,000 people
Peace River is a business, governance and cultural hub drawing people from across the region – in 2011 our census population was close to 24,000 people for the region.
Spaces will allow for concerts, large scale community events and more while the region currently has outdoor space for large community events – this new facility will open up new possibilities in the darker, colder months when outdoor events are not feasible. Indoor children’s playground complete with large community room and kitchen, offering groups new amenities
Take to the field – 12 months of the year
From soccer, to volleyball, badminton and much, much more. The Peace Regional Recreation Centre makes year round sports possible.
In addition, the indoor field is ringed by a walking and running track that will help Peace River keep walking and running through the worst of the winter.
Neighbours & Partners
From the very beginning of this project the Town of Peace River reached out to our neighbouring municipalities. They’re now helping to make this facility a reality, through financial support of the project and collaboration on the design.
We worked together on a Regional Recreation Needs Assessment. This was an important document that helped set the priorities for what the facility will contain – the ice sheet, indoor soccer field and track all came out of this assessment.
Public consultation took place in many forms from 2012 to 2014 culminating in the Regional Recreation Needs Committee, comprised of the Town of Peace River, County of Northern Lights, Northern Sunrise County, and Municipal District of Peace Number 135. Through 2015 and the beginning of 2016 this Committee worked tirelessly to design a building that was both financially feasible and met important community needs.
Fundraising and Sponsorship
Our new Recreation Centre will be a community focal point for many years to come – if your family or business has been considering a meaningful way to contribute to your community this could be that opportunity.
While the core features of the facility will be part of the construction, accents and the beautification of the facility will require community leadership.
We need people to lead this effort, to address issues such as naming rights, sponsorship, advertising and donations. This is a rare opportunity to directly contribute to the creation of a new landmark facility.
