An update from the women’s shelter, support for asphalt work, and a proud display of fandom from Coun. Marc Boychuk (he lost a bet) highlighted the May 27, 2024 council meeting.
➡️ The Peace River Regional Women’s Shelter gave an update following its mould remediation work, for which the Town contributed financial assistance earlier this year.
“We had amazing support,” said Carol Van Slyke, chair of the shelter’s board, talking about local governments stepping up quickly to address the mould discovery.
The work to remediate the facility took about three months.
➡️ Council approved a transfer of $400,000 from the General Operating Reserve to fund various asphalt repairs included in the scope of work tendered for the 2024 Capital Overlay Project.
➡️ For the 2024 Council Remuneration Review Committee, council approved appointing Samuel Elkins, Larry Hryniuk, and Brandon Dous to take on that work.
➡️ Council voted down a request from property owners of 10026 101 Street for the Town to install gates at the east and west ends of a public utility lot.
