The Opportunity: Director of Engineering and Infrastructure

The Town of Peace River is accepting applications for the position of Director of Engineering and Infrastructure. This permanent full-time position will report to the Chief Administrative Officer and will provide leadership and guidance to the Engineering Department. The successful applicant will be responsible for all Town related engineering, GIS, planning and development, public works, fleet, facilities, roads and water and wastewater departments and will keep the CAO and Council advised on successes, challenges and other relevant matters. This position oversees a total compliment of 27 staff, with 5 direct reports. The Director must have knowledge of local government operations. Project management skills are required and the candidate must be capable to develop and manage budgets and capital plans.

The Director will also provide technical and environmental advice and engineering services to the other department directors. Because this position works closely with staff, consultants, contractors, provincial agencies and other levels of government the ability to communicate and coordinate well with internal and external stakeholders is a requirement.

The Ideal Candidate will hold:

  1. Four year Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree or related field of engineering, or C.E.T.
  2. Five years of related experience preferably in an Alberta municipal setting.
  3. Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or CET with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology (ASET) or able to be registered within three months;
  4. Practical knowledge and experience in computer systems and business applications in MS Office, MS Project and MS Teams;
  5. Working knowledge of:
    1. Autocad, Autocad Civil 3D;
    2. ArcGIS;
    3. H2OWater or other water modelling software;
    4. Cityworks;
    5. Questica; and
    6. Great Plains Dynamics Diamond Municipal Solutions software.
  6. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
