Recent rainfall has allowed us to downgrade the Town of Peace River’s initial Fire Ban to a Fire Restriction. Please continue to abide by the following restrictions, recognizing that though this is not a full Fire Ban, it is important that we continue to remain vigilant and cautious.

Prohibited:

  • All outdoor fires not contained within a non-combustible fire pit – no fire permits for open burning will be issued until further notice.
  • Fireworks, exploding targets, incendiary type reveal items and flame powered floating lanterns are also prohibited.

Allowed:

  • Safe wood campfires within fire pits in public and private campgrounds
  • Backyard fire pits
  • BBQs and Smokers that use solid fuels (wood chips or pellets, charcoal briquettes, etc.)
  • Propane, Natural Gas, or Electrically powered cooking, heating, and lighting appliances
  • Open flame oil devices (turkey deep fryers, tiki torches)
  • Indoor wood fires contained within a device with a chimney and spark arrestor.

As always, caution should be exercised with any fire.

Never leave a fire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished.

  • The use of Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV) is not permitted on public lands and roadways within the Town of Peace River limits. If you’re using an OHV on private lands, please ensure that debris, such as dried grasses and leaves aren’t collecting near the hot parts of your OHV such as the muffler, exhaust, under your seat, in the wheel wells, engine, and manifold.
  • Please ensure that any smoking materials, such as cigarettes, are completely extinguished and placed in a suitable receptacle, rather than discarded along a trail, sidewalk or roadway.

The Fire Restriction will remain in effect until conditions improve.
