The Town of Peace River recognizes the valuable contributions made by community organizations and volunteer groups to improve the well-being of the community and quality of life for residents.
The Town also acknowledges that sometimes there are circumstances beyond a volunteer organization’s control that can impact their operations and ability to remain financially viable.
This grant program is designed to assist organizations that are in an extreme or emergency situation, that requires an immediate financial contribution to ensure operations can continue and no long-term negative impacts are experienced by the organization.
This Emergency Fund is available for a broad spectrum of emergent issues that an organization may face. While examples of potential situations eligible for funding are provided, they are not meant to be all encompassing or limit an organization’s ability to apply. The examples are to serve as a guideline and not an exhaustive list, as the number of potential circumstances is too extensive to identify specifically.
Applications for Funding may be considered for the following circumstances:
Facility failure/catastrophic failure of a facility system, such as heating.
Weather events that cause damage to equipment/structures that is not covered by insurance.
Theft/break in – where areas/items are not covered by insurance.
Fire – for items/areas not covered by insurance.
Sudden one-time expense, outside of the organization’s control that will create a significant financial burden.
Insurance deductible.
Any significant event that would be considered unforeseeable by a reasonable person.
Applications for Funding for the following are not eligible and will not be considered:
Loan/debt repayments
Canada Revenue Agency debt
Fundraising
General funding of regular operations
New capital - construction for new structures/equipment
Organization has sufficient reserve funds that would be available for the situation
Expenses fully covered by insurance
Incidents or events that by a reasonable person would consider foreseeable/avoidable and were the result of negligence
Replacement or building of the organization’s reserves or savings.
To be eligible for funding under this Policy, applicants must:
Be a registered charity or not-for-profit located and operating in Peace River.
Be in good standing with the Town of Peace River.
Not have an outstanding balance owing to the Town of Peace River.
Eligible organizations must also fall within one of the following categories:
Community organization with the purpose of providing support services
Recreation or sport organization
Cultural organization
Religious organization that provides a service to the greater community and not just their membership
The following are ineligible for funding under this Policy:
An individual
For-profit organizations and businesses
Organizations serving private business or economic development needs
Political organizations
Education services/organizations and schools
Provincial/Federal agencies and Housing Authorities
Applications
The 2025 Budget has $10,000 allocated for this emergency grant. Application intake is ongoing, and available on a first come, first served basis, until funds are exhausted.
It is intended that this fund would only be available on an urgent, as need basis and would be only accessed once per organization in a calendar year. However, consideration may be given to accept an additional application from the same organization based on the circumstances of the requests.
