Register to Vote!

New this election, a municipality MUST prepare a permanent Electors Register of residents who are eligible to vote in the local election (s. 49 of the LAEA).

Why is this important to me?

If, on election day, your name is not on the Electors Register, you will have to complete a statement in the prescribed form (provided at the voting station), to be added to the Electors Register and be eligible to vote (s. 53 of the LAEA).

How do you make sure your name is on the permanent Electors Register prior to election day?

You may register to vote, check to see if you are registered to vote, or update your information, by visiting Voterlink.

Please be advised that VoterLink is the Province's voter registration platform. As this is a new rule, the Province is partnering with municipalities to provide a permanent Electors Register, created from their election registration information. If you run into any issues using the VoterLink platform or have any questions, you will need to use the help/contact information provided on the VoterLink website.

What do you need to prove you are eligible to vote?

Every person who attends a voting station in Peace River who wishes to vote, must

be on the permanent electors register, and
provide one piece of identification issued by a Canadian government, whether federal, provincial, or local, or an agency of that government, that contains your photograph

complete a statement in the prescribed form adding you to the permanent electors register, and
validate your identity and address by providing:
- one piece of identification issued by a Canadian government, whether federal, provincial or local, or an agency of that government, that contains your photograph, name, and address of residence
- provide two pieces of ID*, both containing your full name, and with one showing your current physical address
  - another elector may vouch for your address only, by completing the prescribed form provided at the voting station.

Previously, a person who was unable to provide sufficient documentation to prove their eligibility to vote could become eligible by having another person vouch for them to validate their identity and residence.

However, the legislation has changed. Now, individuals MUST be able to provide identification that validates their identity; however, they may have another person vouch for their address of residence.

When can't you vouch for someone?

you have relied on someone else to vouch for your address
you have already vouched for someone else (exception: you may vouch for more than one person if each person you vouch for shares the same place of residence)
your name is not already contained on the permanent electors register

How do I vouch for someone's address?

A person who vouches for another person must make a statement, in the prescribed form (provided at the voting station), that

they know the person they are vouching for,
they know that the person resides at the address provided, and
they have not relied on another person to validate their own address.
