River Ice Advisory

Alberta Environment and Protected Areas has issued a routine River Ice Advisory for the Peace River from the Hwy 986 Bridge to the Town of Peace River.

River levels in the Peace River at the Town of Peace River may begin to rise in response to the approaching ice front over the next few days.

The new ice cover may be unstable and water levels between the Town of Peace River and the Hwy 986 Bridge could fluctuate rapidly with an ice cover consolidation.

When freeze-up occurs at the Town of Peace River, it is typical for the water level to rise between 2.5 to 3.5 m.

For more information about local flood response, residents should contact their local municipality and ask their primary emergency preparedness contact.

Advisories apply to streams and their tributaries unless otherwise noted.

Both boat launches in town will be barricaded for safety.

Please stay off the ice. It is NEVER safe to walk on the ice of the Peace River.
