Whatever you were doing last night is likely not part of the public record.
Town Council is though, and here are some highlights from our meeting:
- Following a public hearing, Council passed third reading for two bylaw amendments.
- Bylaw No. 2168 amends Land Use Bylaw No. 1891 to allow domestic animal care services in eight land use districts, particularly at the applicant's business location of 9814 100 Street.
- Bylaw No. 2169 amends Land Use Bylaw No. 1891 by redistricting Plan 8421257 Parcel B from Community Development District to Direct Control District. In English, that means the Town-owned portion of the property know as Lions Campground (CN owns the majority of the land there) has been redistricted to Direct Control, meaning Council gets to decide what it's used for. Following direction from Council, the Town will be putting that land up for sale, with the stipulation that the buyer use the land for the purposes of a campground.
- Chief Administrative Officer Barbara Miller presented the CAO's fourth quarter report, as well as a Council Action Items tracker.
- Council adopted a revised Council Grants to Organizations Policy, which included several changes, such as adding a clause that clarifies the grant does not fund regular operational expenditures of an organization; making it clear that applicants must return funds if the project does not proceed; simplifying the scoring system for applicants; and more. The first intake for 2025 for Council Grants to Organizations is open, with a March 15 deadline. For more information, visit peaceriver.ca/grants
- Council accepted the resignations of Josh Magnuson and Shannon Hammer from the Community Services Board, and reappointed Katelyn Martineau and Nasar Iqbal for one-year terms.
- In light of the provincial requirement to create or join a policing committee, Council directed Administration to express interest in joining a Regional Policing Committee with Drayton Valley, Whitecourt, Hinton, and Edson. These municipalities, along with Peace River, fall in the RCMP District West, and are the municipalities that are considered a part of our region under the legislation.
