Downtown Peace River is the heart of the community. Community Clean Up Crews enhance and maintain our beautiful downtown and support community groups as a fundraising opportunity. Non-profit-groups can volunteer to clean up garbage downtown and receive $200 for each 2-hour shift.
How does it work?
Not-for-profit community groups register to take a clean-up shift of approximately 2 hours with a minimum number of 4 participants.
- Program Season: April 30th to October 30th
- Each group will be assigned one week during the season to complete their two-hour clean-up shift. Clean-up can be completed at any time during that week.
- Each group will be guaranteed a minimum of 2 weeks during the season.
- Groups will receive a financial contribution to their organization of $200 for every 2-hour shift.
Process:
- Register your not-for-profit for a 2-hour shift to clean up garbage within the downtown area. Your groups will be required to organize a minimum of 4 people for your shift.
- Maps will be provided of the designated area for the week. Groups are asked to stay within the identified downtown area, other areas of the community may be assigned on a case-by-case basis.
- Bags and garbage picking tools will be provided.
- Please pick up all garbage found along the curb, sidewalks, and adjacent to buildings.
- Volunteers must work in pairs.
Requirements:
- Must be a registered non-profit, club, or organization in Alberta.
- Priority will be given to organizations located in Peace River.
To register (note that 2026 registration is full):
- Interested groups must register by April 13, 2026.
- If more than 10 organizations that register a random lottery will be used to select participants.
- All other groups will be waitlisted and may be called upon if an organization is unable to fulfill their commitment.
- A second call for groups may occur, based on the level of interest.
