Volunteer With The Roots of Empathy Program
The Town of Peace River is looking for families who’ve had a baby during July or August of 2017 to join our Roots of Empathy Program.
Families would volunteer 30 minutes of their time, just once per month from October through May; visiting a local classroom along with one of our certified Roots of Empathy Instructors to share stories of your baby’s development and your experiences as a parent.
The students will get to sing to your baby, share nursery rhymes, and help celebrate your baby’s milestones. Students love learning from their Roots baby, and witnessing their “little teacher” as they learn to roll over, make sounds, crawl and play with toys. They love hearing that like them, parents have worries and frustrations. They also see that baby is learning to do new things, everyday, just like them and that it’s okay to learn these new things at different speeds than other babies and children. When baby is learning to crawl for the first time, many of our students are also learning to ride a two wheel bike for the first time or making the jump into a new school or community. They watch the baby learn these new skills and can relate to them on their own level.
Roots of Empathy topics include empathy, broadening the students vocabulary for feelings, safety for the babies and themselves, brain development and many other child development topics. All classes are fully coordinated by our trained instructors and students, teachers, and families absolutely love this program!
