URGENT MESSAGE – RIVER ICE SAFETY
Yesterday afternoon, the Fire Department, Sheriffs and RCMP responded to two youths who were out on the river ice near the open water, just north of the highway bridge.
This is extremely dangerous behaviour!
With warmer temperatures and the spring ice break-up approaching, the ice can be very unstable and unpredictable in its thickness and strength.
Anyone on the ice who falls through would be swept away in the river current and trapped under the ice, without chance of rescue or recovery.
Please stay off the ice.
Do not endanger your life or those of first responders.
Thank you for your cooperation, and please teach your children about ice safety. It takes all of us to keep our community safe!
