Sidewalk Snow Clearing
January 10, 2018
Safe and accessible sidewalks are a community responsibility when there is snow and ice.
In Peace River Bylaw 1834 outlines the roles and responsibilities for the municipality and residents after a snowfall it requires residents to clear all of the snow from adjacent sidewalks. For businesses the grace period is 24 hours, for residential properties, it is 48 hours. within 24 to 48 hours of a snowfall. That means following the most recent snowfall all sidewalks adjacent to commercial properties must be clear by Thursday, Jan. 11 at 8am and sidewalks adjacent to residential properties must be cleared by 8am on Friday Jan. 12.
Typically, most residents clear the snow on sidewalks adjacent to their properties within a few days. However, in those cases where the snow has not been cleared Town of Peace River Bylaw Enforcement will be issuing tickets.
Please do your part to keep our sidewalks safe and accessible.
