Shell Rotary House Breaks Ground

News Release
July 11, 2016

Peace River, Alberta – After four years of tenacious and tireless fundraising, the Peace River Rotary Club’s vision of the Shell Rotary House becomes a reality.

Health care in the north is a significant challenge, and accessing those services can often mean leaving one’s community to find the care needed. The Shell Rotary House will be situated within walking distance of the Peace River Community Health Centre.

The facility will offer lodging to outpatients, family members, caregivers or travel companions allowing them to remain close at hand and provide better support.  Additionally, the top floor, will provide convenient temporary accommodations for visiting physicians, medical specialists, relief staff and locums which will assist in maintaining and building a sustainable and stable health system in the region.

This project will also house the new North Peace Housing Foundation administrative offices in a separate space attached to the building. This joint construction will bring benefits in terms of shared construction and land costs, and it will reduce operational costs of both facilities by sharing much of the overhead and maintenance cost for the building.

Peace River Rotary Club provided the vision, leadership and fundraising efforts in order for this project to evolve. With the support of local business, industry, municipalities and individuals, this important addition to the north Peace Region’s healthcare services has been made possible.

“It’s impossible to quantify the impact a project such as this will have on a region.  I’m thrilled to be part of the process and working with a selfless team committed to making the Shell Rotary House a reality.”
Bev Bastell , Co-Chair Rotary House Fundraising Committee

“We are a proud supporter of the Shell Rotary House.  We are honored to be part of the effort in support of the communities in which we work.  May it serve those in need for many years to come.”

When the Peace River Rotary Club first approached North Peace Housing regarding a joint project, the Board immediately recognized the immense partnership benefits to both organizations, the health and medical organizations and our regional communities.  The two groups have spent the better part of two years working together to see this project through. We are very pleased to see the commitment of the Rotary Club fundraiser and all the work they have done over the past four years, and the support the project received from the Town of Peace River and Northern Sunrise County to bridge the funding gap and make the project a reality. This building is a complimentary and important piece to our seniors health and housing campus on Peace River’s westhill.

“Rotary House is another step, an important step, to  developing a health campus in the Town of Peace River that will benefit not only our residents, but also the residents of our region. This health campus will provide young and old and everyone in-between with comprehensive health and medical services.”
Tom Tarpey, Mayor –  Town of Peace River

“Northern Sunrise County is excited to see the Rotary House project move from a vision four years ago, to a reality today. Shell Rotary House will provide much needed accommodation for outpatients, family members, caregivers, and out-of-town medical staff and specialists in our region. The County is pleased to see the use of the inter-municipal joint capital fund for a project of this magnitude that will serve the entire region. The extensive financial contributions from many community organizations, corporations, and individuals that have helped to bring this project together also deserve recognition and praise. Northern Sunrise County would also like to thank the Peace River Rotary Club, the fundraising committee, and all those who have worked tirelessly to bring this dream together.  We are proud to be a part of this project and this region.”
Garrett Tomlinson, Reeve – Northern Sunrise County

All of us at Go Auto Peace River and Falher are excited to see the Rotary House project start construction this week.  This will be an amazing landmark that will help provide a space for some of our Northern families in need and much needed medical staff housing to help continue to deliver a high level  medical support in our area.  We at Go Auto continue to be thankful for the opportunity to partner in this great project.
