Shaftesbury Pit #2 Land Use Bylaw Amendment Application

Lehigh Hanson Materials Limited (Inland Aggregates) would like to invite you to our upcoming Open House to learn about a new proposed project to construct and operate the Shaftesbury Pit #2 gravel pit within the M.D. of Peace No. 135 (M.D.).  Inland Aggregates is a leading supplier of quality aggregate products in western Canada and currently operates the existing Shaftesbury Pit along Highway 684.  Aggregates mined in this area have been instrumental in the construction of many developments within the region.  Inland Aggregates supports the local community through the Community Aggregate Payment paid to the M.D., which is directed to their municipal Public Works budget.

Per the requirements outlined in the M.D. Land Use Bylaw No. 5/2016, Inland Aggregates will be applying for a new gravel pit development called the Shaftesbury Pit #2, to be located on privately owned lands.  Inland is applying to the M.D. for an amendment to the Land Use Bylaw to rezone the subject property from agricultural use to Rural Industrial: Shaftesbury Trail Gravel Pit District and, if approved, for the eventual issuance of a Development Permit to allow for construction and operation of the Shaftesbury Pit #2.  Anticipated site activities will include the following:

  • Site preparation: vegetation clearing, topsoil and subsoil salvage and stockpiling;
  • Aggregate extraction with on-site crushing;
  • Material transportation; and
  • Site reclamation upon resource depletion.

Please join us to learn more about the proposed Shaftesbury Pit #2 project.  An open house will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the existing Inland Shaftesbury Pit Shop on Shaftesbury Trail (just south of Shaftesbury Estates). Light refreshments will be served.
