Alberta Health Services program information (not a complete list):
Aboriginal Liaison Services: Provides services and health information for in and out patients and their families. Coordinates and connects with local reserves and settlements on the services that Alberta Health Services provides.
Community Cancer Care: The Peace River Community Health Centre provides cancer care to patients in the Peace River area. A referral from a physician is required.
Chronic Disease Management: Alberta Healthy Living Program offers FREE programming to adults 18 years and older. To register call 1-877-349-5711.
Education Sessions: Nurse and Registered Dietitian co-facilitated education sessions that include: Introduction to Type 2 Diabetes; High Blood Pressure; and Cholesterol. Weight management educational sessions include €œManaging your emotional eating€ and €œWeight Wise€.
Better Choices, Better Health® Self-Management Workshop: A workshop that helps you take small steps to control your health. Topics include how to manage pain and fatigue; how to deal with difficult emotions like anger, fear; how to get better sleep; how to make healthy choices; along with problem solving and goal setting.
Exercise Program: An interactive program that provides guidance and expertise to participants regarding safe and effective exercise tailored to individual’s needs, resulting in increased energy, strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance.
All sessions are from 2-2.5 hours each.
Continuing Care: Formerly known as a nursing home, auxiliary hospital or long term care, Continuing Care provides care for residents with complex medical conditions. Phone Sutherland Continuing Care at 780-624-7538.
Dental Health: Offers preventative preschool dental clinics; community dental health education and promotion; school sealant and fluoride program and referrals.
Early Intervention Program: Offers home-based, family centered services and supports for families who have children, from birth to five years of age, at risk for, or who are experiencing developmental delays.
Environmental Public Health: Works to prevent and move any dangerous conditions found in public places.
French Liaison Services: Provides services and health for French speaking persons requiring assistance accessing health services.
Health Promotion Program: Works to improve the health status of the community by helping people to adopt healthy practices. Focus areas include active living, tobacco reduction and cessation, injury prevention and healthy eating.
Home Care: Provides professional health and support services in partnership with clients and families to optimize their ability to continue to live within their community. Basic foot care is provided by the Home Care Department.
Infection Control: Involves an integrated, region-wide mechanism to address infection control in hospital and continuing care facilities.
Northern Alberta Renal Program: Provides hemodialysis to patients in the Peace River area at the Peace River Community Health Centre. A referral from a physician is required. The Nephrology Clinic provides monitoring of end stage renal disease prior to hemodialysis.
Nutrition Services: Includes individual assessment and counseling for diabetes, heart health, allergies, weight management, or other disease related conditions; and provides healthy eating resources to community groups. Group education classes are also offered.
Public Health Nursing: Offers regular immunization for children and adults, flu clinics, travel health, school immunizations, home visits for newborns, health counseling (on family health, infant feeding, child development, and lifestyle issues) to individuals or groups; prenatal information including Building Better Babies and prenatal classes, as well as referral to other community services.
Rehabilitation Services: Provides an integrated service of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology.
Respiratory Health Program: Provides respiratory education to help manage respiratory health, including disease management for asthma, COPD and related illnesses. Inpatient access is by referral from clinical departments. Community and schools can access and utilize these resources for educational in-services or personalized care planning.
Sexual Health Program: Provides a comprehensive community based sexual health service including education, clinical services and consultation to individuals, families and communities to promote sexual well-being through the life span.
Volunteer Services: Offers volunteer opportunities at Alberta Health Services, available in hospitals, rural areas, community programs and services.
