Heritage Interpreter and Programming Assistant
Peace River is the cultural and economic hub of the north Peace Region. The town of 6700 people is nestled in the Peace River valley. The Peace River Museum, Archives and Mackenzie Centre is the local museum featuring Peace River history. The Museum focuses specifically on the Town’s history, but the Archives has a regional collection mandate for the north Peace Region. Established in 1967, it is home to more than 8,500 artefacts and more than 13,000 archival items.
The Peace River Museum, Archives and Mackenzie Centre requires a Heritage Interpreter and Programming Assistant to deliver positively memorable historical experiences at heritage sites within the Town and surrounding region and to assist with the delivery of school programming and public events at the Museum.
The ideal candidate for this position will have a passion for heritage and culture, be pursuing studies in History, Education, Theatre, Museum Studies, Anthropology or related field and be returning to post-secondary studies in September 2018. Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, is essential. The candidate must have a willingness to learn, to work independently and ideally, have experience creating and delivering public programs.
This position will receive training from and work closely with the Museum Programmer but will independently deliver the interpretive program to visitors at the historic sites.
This position is in part funded by the Young Canada Works employment program and to be considered, candidates must be registered in the YCW Candidate database. YCW criteria state that candidates must be:
- Between the ages of 16 and 30 years;
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents;
- Legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Have been a full-time student in the semester prior to the YCW job and intend to return to full-time studies in the fall.

Dates of Employment: May 14, 2018 – August 24, 2018
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week. Some weekend work will be required
Wage: $16.00 per hour
