Presentations

Community Futures – 2021 Business Support Program Final Report

The Local Business Support Program, launched with partnership between the Town of Peace River, Community Futures Peace Country and the Peace River Chamber of Commerce, ran from May 10, 2021 to August 31, 2021. The program offered businesses 10 hours of free one-on-one coaching with an expert in either bookkeeping, human resources, business planning or social media marketing.

There were 36 applicants, and of those, 11 were eligible for the program; of the 11 businesses, 8 participated with the one-on-one coaching.

Council accepted the report and passed it on to Administration. 

Local Business Support Program

Peace River Regional Women’s Shelter Society – Request for Tax Waiver

Council accepted the presentation for information and directed Administration to bring back a briefing note.

Bylaws

Request for Decision re: 2108, the 2022 MasterCard Borrowing Bylaw

Council provided first, second and third readings to Bylaw 2108, a Bylaw to establish short-term borrowing at the Alberta Treasury Branch for the Town’s MasterCard account.

Request for Decision re: 2109, the 2022 Line of Credit Borrowing Bylaw

Council provided first, second and third readings to Bylaw 2109, a Bylaw to maintain a line of credit at the Alberta Treasury Branch.

Unfinished Business

Request for Decision re: Tax Penalty Waiver Request (updated January 7, 2022)

Council applied the penalty charges on the 2021 property tax bill 546010 of $310.37 to the water utility account # 54601003085.01. A motion for administration to make policy in regard to tax forgiveness/variation was passed.

New Business

Briefing Note re: Community Engagement (updated January 7, 2022)

Council accepted the briefing note for information, as the appointed committee continues to work on this. A meeting will happen later this week and a plan will be flushed out with goal dates adjusted, if necessary. 

Request for Decision re: Battle of the Badges

Council enabled Mayor and Council to attend the Battle of the Badges on January 15th, 2022 at 7:00pm at the Baytex Energy Centre and for the Mayor or designate to participate in a ceremonial puck drop.

Peace River School Division request for support for AHS Services

Council accepted this letter for information and directed Administration to write a letter of support for mental health support to students be provided in a timely fashion.

Council accepted this piece of communication for information.
