During a special meeting held Tuesday December, 13 Peace River approved the 2017 Interim Operating Budget, for the amount of $8,663,648 based on 50% of the Approved 2016 Operating Budget as detailed below.
The fiscal year of all Municipalities in Alberta is the calendar year i.e. start January 1 and ends December 31. Depending on budget deliberations, the Town may not approve an annual budget prior to January 1. Municipalities need to adopt a budget to continue day to day operations; therefore, under section 242 (2) of the Municipal Government Act, “A council may adopt an interim operating budget for part of a calendar year.”
2017 Budget Process Continues
Deliberations for the 2017 budget will continue into the new year. Council will meet on January 9 during their regular meeting.
