Significant updates from the regular meeting of Peace River Town Council are below. You can view the agenda and all Council items here.

2017 Proposed Budget

The Town of Peace River presented its proposed 2017 Operating and Capital Budget to the public on November 14, 2016.

The proposed operating budget maintains existing services while providing Council the opportunity to consider service initiatives and enhancements. Proposed changes to be considered are the implementation of Peace Officer services, additional monies for road maintenance, broadening the taxi pass program, doubling the budget for tree planting and additional funds for Canada150 celebrations.

The proposed capital budget totals $22.2 million and projects include the Peace River Regional Recreation Centre, continued work under the Neighbourhood Renewal Infrastructure Program, replacing the playground in Saddleback subdivision, and critical water and wastewater projects.

As presented, the budget should require a minor or zero increase in total tax revenues collected by the Town.

Building Canada Phase II Project

Last year the Town of Peace River was successful in the application for a grant from the Building Canada fund to overhaul water and sewer systems on the west hill. Last year phase one was completed, which involved relocating a large set of lines from a slide area next two highway two. Phase two will focus on replacing some of the underground works.

During Council’s meeting on Monday, local contractors Armstrong Construction was awarded the tender, congratulations.

Municipal Waste and Recycling Bylaw

In October the Town of Peace River switched to a new garbage system. Due to the substantial changes in the way the system works the old waste collection bylaw had to be rewritten to accommodate the new changes. The bylaw is available here.
