Significant updates from the May 8, regular meeting of Peace River Town Council are below. You can view the agenda and all Council items here.
Palliative Care Week Proclaimed
Following a presentation by the Peace Palliative Care Society, Town Council officially proclaimed May 8, to May 13, 2017 as Palliative Care Awareness Week in Peace River. The week is intended to celebrate life, right up to the end and palliative care societies across Canada work hard to ensure Canadians live out their lives in dignity.
The Town of Peace River is grateful for the work down by the volunteers with the Peace Palliative Care Society
Green Trip Transportation Grant
Council voted in favour of declining the Green Trip grant offered by the province for the construction of bus shelters and purchase of buses.
Over the last three years the Town has thoroughly, investigated the feasibility of providing a scheduled bus service in Peace River. While improving public transport remains a goal of the Town at this time it is not feasible to operate a scheduled bus system without an annual source of funding identified. In the interim, the Town will continue to operate the Taxi Pass program while we search for an annual funding plan.
2018 Neighbourhood Infrastructure Renewal Program
Engineering for the next phase of the Town’s Infrastructure Renewal Program was approved and Council awarded the project to Velocity Engin. An engineering plan outlines complete neighbourhood renewal in the South End along 99 Street. The project will take three years and will also encompass 105, 106, 107, and 108 Avenues.
This follow the 2015 Project in Saddleback and the 2017 project on 86 Avenue.
