2017 Municipal Budget

Water Rates

Council deliberated Amendments to Bylaw 1996 to raise Peace River’s water rate by 19 cents per 1000 litres or about a $3 increase . The incremental rate increase is intended to continue to drive the water and wastewater operations towards a user-pay, cost recovery system. The water rate reflects individual usage but also takes into account the annual operating costs associated with the water and wastewater system, including the costs associated with treating and delivering the water.
This will work out to an increase of approximately $3 per customer per bill.

Supporting Local Groups

The annual Davis Awards hosted by the Chamber of Commerce celebrate the best of our small business community, during their meeting Council voted to contribute $1000 to help the awards go forward. Council also voted to contribute $500 to the Peace River Curling Club for their bonspiel to raise money for MS research.

Fire Agreements Extended

Peace River works with our neighbours, the County of Northern Light and MD of Peace No. 135 to provide regional fire services. The agreements that manage those services are up for review and require a bit more time to update the agreements. Council voted Monday night to extend the agreements as they are to allow for more time for negotiation on the new ones.
