Masonic Lodge to become a Heritage Site

Following a public consultation process, the Masonic Lodge in Peace River is set to become the first, officially recognized, municipally designated, historic building in Peace River. During their meeting Council passed the bylaw establishing the site (Bylaw 1974).

Davis Awards – Mayor to present Community Involvement Award; Council Sponsors

Each year the Peace River and District Chamber of Commerce puts on an award show for local businesses. The Davis Awards celebrate the best of local business in Peace River and the area.
Following a request from the Chamber of Commerce – the mayor will be presenting the Community Involvement Award during the award night, Town Council also voted to sponsor an award for this year; the Customer Service Award.

Transportation Assistance for Syrian Refugees

Thanks to the dedication of Peace River’s residents, three Syrian families fleeing the conflict in that country will be resettled in Peace River. A request was sent to council to help provide transportation assistance to the new arrivals. Utilizing the Taxi Pass program Council voted in favour of providing assistance through subsidized Taxi Passes.

Support for Local Groups

Several community groups received funding support from the Town of Peace River. The Songrise Music Conference, Alberta Pond Hockey, and Carnival de St. Isidore successfully applied for funding assistance. During the meeting councillors noted these are important events that bring prestige to the region.

Airshow Approved for 2016

The Peace Regional Airshow committee has been busy gearing up for another show this summer. Council voted in favour of allowing the group to host the event at the Peace River airport again this summer. Mark your calendars for July 16 & 17, 2016.
