Town Council regular meeting Feb. 22, 2016

Updates from the regular meeting of Peace River Town Council. You can view the agenda here.

Public Hearing

A public hearing was held regarding Bylaw 1975 and proposed changes to the land use bylaw regarding a proposed residential development on the west bank of town. An opportunity was had for members of the public to speak either for, against, or regarding the impact of the bylaw, one person spoke in favour of the bylaw amendments. The proposed changes are available online.

Neighbourhood Renewal 2016 – Engineering Consultant

After a tender bid process that saw three different engineering firms vying for the opportunity – Velocity Geomatics has been awarded the engineering consultant tender for the 2016 Neighbourhood Renewal project.
The project this year will take place along 86 Ave and will tackle major infrastructure deficits including sewer and road work – more information is available in the request for decision.

Fees and Charges Bylaw

The bylaw was brought back before council for second and third reading, and it passed. Prior to voting, council received feedback from user groups who will be affected by the changes, as a result, this bylaw passed with an amendment regarding the rates for ball diamonds (their rates will be set at $85 for youth and $350 for adults).
These fees go towards the upkeep of the fields, rinks, arena and other facilities that Peace Riverites enjoy every day. This year, for the first time since 2011, it was necessary to update the bylaw that sets those fees to ensure our facilities are well maintained and ready for our community groups when they need them. More information is available in the request that was sent to Council.
