Appointment of New Chief Administrative Officer

Posted September 27, 2022

Council is pleased to announce that Ms. Barbara Miller has been selected as the new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Town of Peace River. She will be assuming her new role and responsibilities on November 1, 2022.

This is the key leadership position within the Town Administration, and we are fortunate to have attracted strong candidates from across Canada.

Having spent most of her career in senior financial roles, including being an auditor for UFA Cooperative Limited, Ms. Miller moved into the world of municipal government leadership in 2008 and has never looked back.  She served as the CAO for the Town of Vauxhall in southern Alberta for half a dozen years before moving to the Town of Drumheller for the following six years. During this time, she was the Director of Corporate Services, Deputy Director of Emergency Management, and eventually the Deputy CAO.  Prior to accepting this role with the Town of Peace River, she spent just over a year as the CAO for the MD of Lesser Slave River, based out of Slave Lake.

In addition to possessing her professional CPA, CGA designation, Ms. Miller has her Bachelor of Applied Business Administration degree, her professional local government designation (CLGM), numerous emergency management certifications, as well as several other relevant courses and training.

Council feels that Ms. Miller will be a significant asset to the administrative team within the Town. The Town Council wishes to thank Ms. Tanya Bell who stepped up and was the Interim CAO following the departure of long-serving CAO Mr. Chris Parker earlier this summer.  In addition, a big thank you must be extended to the Town’s administration and operations teams, as everyone has contributed to keeping things moving forward during this transition period.

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Miller and her husband to the Town.
